scarecrows and sketches

Back in the day the Japanese would use animal skulls and other parts to create a smell to repell other animals from coming and eating their crops. The image on the left is a scarecrow with a crane head. The images on the left are after looking at Brom's book with stick men in it. I really liked the way he designed them. wednesday night sketching

When I lived in san jose I would go out sketching every wednesday night with other art friends, now that I've moved to Brisbane I haven't been sketching, so last night I went to our local barnes and nobles to sketch. I was by myself for part of it, but a friend from town stopped by and kept me company. Hope you enjoy.

more scarecrow ideations

Here are some more scarecrow ideations I've been sketching. I was looking up the history of scarecrows from different cultures and decided to play around with some of those. I still have a lot to explore, but i found windmills an interesting add on to the scarecrow. Maybe he's so bad at scaring crow they've made a nest on his head. I was trying to get away from a typical scarecrow head (sack, pumpkins, etc) and thought maybe a potted plant would be cool. Maybe there isnt' any dirt inside and pot had holes in it for eyes so you can see he doesnt' have a brain. I hope you enjoy! Thanks for stopping by.
